Are you homeschooling a struggling learner? Just like your students needs your specialized care, you as a parent may need some specialized support. Today on Home School Heartbeat, HSLDA President Mike Smith and his guest, Faith Berens, share a resource designed just for you!

Mike Smith:
Parents who are homeschooling a struggling learner may feel alone because their child isn’t at the same stage as everyone else’s child. We at HSLDA want to provide hope and support for those parents, though our Homeschooling Your Struggling Learner program. Faith Berens is one of the coordinators of this program. Faith, tell the parents listening what resources we offer through this program.

Faith Berens:
Sure, Mike! When members call our department, we are able to offer them encouragement, direction, one-on-one consultation, and help with the selection of curricula and appropriate materials. We’re also able to link our members with professionals such as therapists or homeschool-friendly tutors in their state. And we offer a wealth of online resources and help. One of our newest helps that we offer is our free online newsletter that offers tips and strategies and encouragement for our members.

Mike:
Well, Faith, thank you. This is truly a great program that we hope helps a lot of homeschool families succeed. On our next program, we’ll bring some practical advice and encouragement for parents teaching a struggling reader. And until then, I’m Mike Smith.
