Whether you’re just starting your homeschool experience with your 5-year-old, or starting middle school with your fifth child, sometimes it’s nice to get a little encouragement and a few answers. Find out about HSLDA’s new program to provide those and more, on today’s Home School Heartbeat, with HSLDA President Mike Smith.
Mike Smith:
This week on the program, Vicki Bentley has joined me to provide encouragement and suggestions for parents of younger students. Vicki, you’ll be doing this on a more individualized level for HSLDA member families, right?
Vicki Bentley:
Sure.
Mike:
Vicki, tell our listeners a little bit about the program you’re working with.
Vicki:
Well, Mike, as veteran homeschoolers, you and I know that it can be overwhelming when you aren’t sure how to begin or which curriculum to choose. Well, there’s HOPE—HSLDA’s coordinated program especially for parents: H-O-P-E, Helping Our Parent Educators. Many of our listeners are already familiar with HSLDA’s High School program and the Struggling Learner program. But maybe they have a preschooler or a primary student.
So HSLDA now has staff dedicated specifically to serving parents in this season of homeschooling, from toddlers all the way through tweens. We answer members’ specific questions, provide general information, offer encouragement; we cover topics from curriculum choices to testing, resources and teaching tips for preschool all the way through middle school. Or they can pick up the phone and talk to a real live person who’s been there, done that.
Moms and dads, we have some great articles and resources to equip and encourage you. And we're adding more each week, so please check back often at hslda.org.
Mike:
Well, Vicki, we at HSLDA believe that this will be a great resource for many homeschooling families with young learners. Thanks for joining us this week on the program! And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
