Homeschool graduates bring strengths to many educational and career opportunities. The Army National Guard recognizes that homeschoolers also bring unique skills, abilities, and character to a Guard career. Chaplain Paul Douglas joins HSLDA President Mike Smith to explain how, today on Home School Heartbeat.
Mike Smith:
Chaplain Douglas, we talked this week about how the Army National Guard made it simpler for homeschool graduates to enlist and what options there are for enlistment. Tell our listeners why the National Guard could be a great fit for homeschoolers.
Chaplain Paul Douglas:
Mike, homeschoolers are prime candidates for the Army National Guard. Our research has shown that homeschoolers are great at teamwork, they have great intuitive skills, great intellectual capacity. Those are the kind of people that the Guard is looking for.
We have some great programs out there to allow homeschoolers to come into the Guard. One of the programs that’s very exciting is the split option program, that will allow a homeschooler to come into the Army National Guard in their junior year and receive a sizeable enlistment bonus, also secure benefits for college. There’s also Guaranteed Reserve Forces scholarships there for homeschoolers who may already be in college and would like to pursue ROTC. Junior and sophomore years—totally paid for. They incur an obligation to be an officer in the Army National Guard.
Tremendous options are available. 1-800-Go-Guard.com. Click on the Homeschool Path to Honor. All the information’s out there. HSLDA’s been terrific in promoting this.
Mike:
Well, Chaplain Douglas, that’s great to hear. Thank you for taking the time to join us again today. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
