test! How will your student do when he sits down to take his college entrance exams? Becky Cooke, HSLDA’s high school coordinator, has some tips, on today’s Home School Heartbeat, with HSLDA President Mike Smith.
Mike Smith:
Becky, this week, you’ve provided a lot of helpful information for listeners getting ready to guide their high schoolers through college entrance exams. Let’s wrap up today with some test-taking tips for those students as they actually go in to take their exams!
Becky Cooke:
Mike, one of the most important tips I can give is for the student to get a good night’s sleep before the test. Then make sure he eats a nutritious breakfast the day of the test. He should also take with him his photo id, two sharpened pencils with erasers, and other supplies such as a calculator, pens, rulers, compasses, and so forth. And be sure to also send along with him the homeschool code.
Now before beginning the test, the student needs to listen carefully to all instructions, read the directions, and review the whole test before jumping into a section. Then read each question carefully, answering the easy questions first.
If the student has practiced taking the test at home, then she’ll be able to pace herself in order to have enough time to finish. If she finishes ahead of time, encourage her to check back over her answers.
For additional tips, visit both the College Board and ACT websites. And remember, these tests can be repeated should the student feels she hasn’t done well.
Mike:
Becky, thanks for joining us this week! This will be great help to our listeners who are homeschooling high schoolers, or thinking ahead about their children’s high school years. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
