Just having a destination isn’t enough—you have to know how to get there! For your high schooler, getting through the maze of college prep takes a road map for each step. Get directions for those college entrance exams, today on Home School Heartbeat with HSLDA President Mike Smith and his guest.

Mike Smith:
Last time, Becky Cooke, HSLDA’s High School Coordinator, discussed choosing which tests your high schooler should take. Becky, how do homeschooling parents actually register their students for testing? Is it different for each test?

Becky Cooke:
Methods of registration depend on the particular test. With regard to the SAT and the SAT Subject Tests, registration is done on line at the College Board website. Now, the homeschool code for both of these tests is 970000.

Parents can register on line as well for the ACT tests at the ACT website. The homeschool code for that test is 969999. The schedules for all of these tests are noted on their websites.

Well, Mike, the PSAT is more problematic for homeschoolers. Students must register with a public or private school giving this test. Schools in most states are not required to accommodate homeschoolers, so I suggest parents begin locating a school in June prior to the October test date that will allow them to register their student to take the test. Now remember, this test is only given once a year in October. There are state specific homeschool codes for the PSAT, and these are listed on our high school website under the testing section.

Mike:
Becky, that’s great practical information. I know our listeners will find it very helpful! And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
