Please note: Today’s program is a rerun that first aired on December 19, 2007.
Is there life after the homeschool years? On today’s Home School Heartbeat with Mike Smith, veteran homeschool mom Elizabeth Smith shares how God opened the doors to an exciting future after she handed out the last diploma.
Mike Smith: Elizabeth, you spend a lot of time helping people in need through your work with the Home School Foundation and the prayer ministry Breakthrough. How did your homeschool years prepare you for life now?
Elizabeth Smith: One of the wonderful ways we see God’s hand in our lives, is when things come to fruition many years later that he had been preparing you for all along. During the homeschool years I mentioned yesterday, I developed a prayer life and I became devoted to it. I read books about prayer and I experimented plenty. The other thing I did was I really sought the Lord in his Word. I developed a daily pattern of reading the scriptures. I wanted my children to be grounded, and I wanted to be able to answer their questions, so I spent much time in the Word. Well today, however many 20-30 years later, I am a part of a prayer ministry. I am serving as Chairman of the Board of Breakthrough Intercessory Prayer Ministry, I might say www.intercessors.org. That prayer ministry was a direct result of what I learned in praying for my family and my children. The other thing that I do today, that I cherish, is that I teach women’s Bible study and I have for about six years. Well, those years in the Word prepared me to be able to teach women today.
Mike: Elizabeth, thank you for joining me on the program this week. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
