Volume 87, Program 21
Airdate: Monday, January 26, 2009
Originally Aired: Monday, December 17, 2007

Please note: Today’s program is a rerun that first aired on December 17, 2007.

If you’re a homeschool mom, you may not realize how much of your life you devote to homeschooling until you graduate your last child. So what’s next? On today’s Home School Heartbeat, host Mike Smith talks with his wife Elizabeth Smith about how parenting, prayer, and a trust in God equipped her to face life after homeschool.

Mike Smith:
I’m so pleased to have my wife Elizabeth with me today on Home School Heartbeat. Welcome, Elizabeth Smith!

Elizabeth:
Thank you very much. I’m very pleased to be here.

Mike:
Elizabeth, can you share with our listeners how homeschooling our children prepared you for your life after homeschooling?

Elizabeth:
Well, I would have to say homeschooling our children challenged me in the best sense of the word. Because I wanted to be a good parent, and I wanted to be prepared, I read books on parenting; I read books on prayer. I wanted to be equipped because I knew, and I felt the pressure was resting on me, to produce some sort of a product relative to my homeschooling efforts. At the same time, I knew there were no guarantees. There was no research yet; we didn’t know if homeschooling would be successful. Parents hadn’t homeschooled long enough to know what would happen after homeschooling. And so it also drove me, I should say, to my knees because I was asking for the Lord to give me direction and help and all that I needed to really meet the needs of my children and my family at the time.

Mike:
Thank you, Elizabeth. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
