When the winter blues hit, what do you do to make it through? Author, speaker, and homeschool mom Zan Tyler suggests ways to cope with those rough times, today on Home School Heartbeat with HSLDA President Mike Smith.
Mike Smith:
Zan, this is a time of year when many moms feel like they’ve been homeschooling forever, and they just can’t keep going another day. How would you recommend renewing and recharging to pull through these very rough times?
Zan Tyler:
Mike, I’ll never forget speaking with Mike and Vickie Farris at a midwinter conference in January of 2007. It was an inspiring, emotionally and spiritually charged event for me, as we met during a snowstorm, and all the moms were focused on encouraging messages. So I would tell you that I think one of the greatest things we can do is find other people to fellowship with during these dark days. It’s after Christmas, it’s before standardized testing, there’s no break on the horizon.
That’s why I’m happy to say that we’re having a conference, an Apologia Live conference, February 27th and 28th, just for this reason, where your wonderful wife Elizabeth, myself, Deb Bell, Rachael Carman, and Sally Clarkson, will be speaking. Our goal is really to help moms over these dark days.
Other advice: take field trips. Take a day off. Take a trip, do anything you can to add some spice for your children. As long as your children are happy, you’ll probably be happy!
Mike:
Zan, I know a lot of moms that will appreciate that encouragement today. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
