Amid the tinsel, glittering lights, and festivities of Christmas, a quiet gift could be making a world of difference to one family today. Hear a special thank-you from a homeschool mother, on today’s Home School Heartbeat, with HSLDA President Mike Smith.
Mike Smith:
Chuck, almost one-third of American homes are single parent homes. What is the Home School Foundation doing to help these families?
Chuck Hurst:
Our Children of Single Parents Fund was started five years ago to help some of the neediest single parents in our homeschooling community. In addition to sending them grants, we give these families a Christmas gift. Here’s a note from one of these grateful families.
When we didn’t have money for Christmas presents last fall, my four young children said that it was okay, they really just wanted to go spend the holidays with families and friends we hadn’t seen in two years.
But with other expenses, we weren’t even going to have money for that trip. I told God He would have to take care of it if He wanted us to go; there was nothing more for me to do.
One day, the children and I went to get the mail. While sitting at the post office in the car, I opened up a Christmas card from the Foundation and stared in shock at the check inside. The kids and I were screaming and rejoicing and trying to take it in, when I turned the key in the ignition to hear these lyrics on the radio: “There is a God … this is the proof.”
Thank you, Home School Foundation! Indeed, there is a God, and your gift was our proof!
