Sacrificial love is at the heart of homeschooling. HSLDA’s Home School Foundation was created to minister that love from one homeschooling family to another. Today Chuck Hurst, the Foundation’s director, joins Home School Heartbeat host and HSLDA President Mike Smith.
Mike Smith:
My guest this week is Chuck Hurst, executive director of the Home School Foundation. Chuck, thanks for joining us today.
Chuck Hurst:
It’s a pleasure to be here!
Mike:
Would you tell our listeners about what the Foundation does, please?
Chuck:
Sure! Our slogan is “Giving
the heart of homeschooling.” The Home School Foundation is an organization that demonstrates in a tangible way what homeschooling is all about—it’s about generous, personal giving: giving of self, time, energy, and resources.
The Foundation provides an avenue for homeschoolers to reach out to fellow homeschoolers who have less of this world’s goods. It’s a way to demonstrate true religion, as James 1 states, by giving people the opportunity to “visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction.”
Over the last year, the Foundation has given out over 800 grants totaling over a million dollars—the majority of which comes from individual homeschool families who feel burdened to give to fellow homeschoolers in great need.
Through its various Funds, the Foundation stands as a testimony to the world around us that God is faithful to those who cry out to Him. We are delighted to be a part of God’s faithfulness in providing for so many financially struggling families within our homeschool community.
Mike:
Chuck, I look forward to hearing the specific ways that the Foundation is ministering to homeschoolers, on our next programs. Until then, I’m Mike Smith.
