How is higher education failing America? This week on Home School Heartbeat, host Mike Farris explains how it’s happening, why it’s important, and what you can do about it. Mike Farris: To find the answer, ISI commissioned researchers at the University of Connecticut’s Department of Public Policy to survey some 14,000 freshman and seniors at 50 colleges and universities. Students were asked 60 multiple choice questions to measure their knowledge in four subject areas: America’s history, government, international relations, and economics. They were asked questions like, “What form of government did the United States Constitution establish?” The study found that, by overwhelming percentages, American higher education is birthing graduates—the future leaders of our nation—who know nothing about the roots of American freedom or the sources of its governing powers. College seniors—including those at some of the most powerful, academically respected universities in the nation—failed all four subjects with an average score of 54.2% correct. This week on Home School Heartbeat, I’ll be discussing the sobering findings of “Failing Our Students, Failing America.” I’m Mike Farris. |
