Homeschooling and American Heritage Girls

Vol. 82, Prg. 6–10
May 5–9, 2008

What does it mean to be a “woman of integrity?” Well, if you ask the mainstream media—becoming a woman of integrity doesn’t always involve a higher being. This week, Mike Smith and his guest, Patti Garibay, will talk about a few ways homeschooling parents can counteract this message and help their daughters find true self-esteem, integrity, and significance in God.

Patti Garibay is founder and Executive Director of the national scouting organization, the American Heritage Girls. Educated at the Ohio State University with a major in secondary education and French, Patti shares a love of history and youth. She enjoyed several roles in theater productions throughout her high school and college years and served as the senior class president of her all-girls high school.

Patti and her husband of 29 years, Pat, are blessed with four grown children—three girls and a boy—and one grandson with two grandkids on the way. Together they enjoy membership at Springdale Church of the Nazarene where they have served in a variety of volunteer roles including interim childrens pastors.

Her volunteer experience with youth, church and civic organizations spans 20 years. In 2004 she was honored as a woman of excellence by her local Chamber of Commerce. Patti has interviewed for hundreds of media outlets during her tenure as national executive director and enjoys public speaking.
