Being able to continue homeschooling is one of the most precious gifts a needy family can receive. On today’s Home School Heartbeat, HSLDA President Mike Smith talks about how the Home School Foundation is sharing this blessing with more and more families. Mike Smith: Reverend Mayfield has homeschooled his five children since his wife died in an accident in March 2005. He contributed to the Home School Foundation because he remembered how he had been supported by fellow homeschoolers after his wife’s death. Reverend Mayfield says that his family received a “tremendous outpouring of love from the homeschooling community. I wanted to do the same.” This dad understands a vital truth: true thankfulness—the realization of God’s blessing in our lives—leads to the desire to share those blessings with others. And when our thankfulness to God is expressed in generosity to others, we see His blessings multiplied in untold ways. Several years ago, the Home School Foundation heard from a widow we had assisted. She had married again, and now wanted to support our Widow’s Fund. “It was such an encouragement to me and we would like to pass the blessing on,” she wrote, and added, “I recently met someone who had donated to the Fund. Tears welled in her eyes as she heard that I was one of the recipients of their family’s donation.” Would you like to find out more? Call Home School Heartbeat at 1-866-338-8614 to receive a brochure that explains how you can donate to the Foundation or apply for a grant. Or visit our website at www.homeschoolheartbeat.com. Until next time, I’m Mike Smith. |
