How does servanthood fit in with homeschooling? Find out on today’s Home School Heartbeat as host Mike Smith continues his discussion with Patti Garibay, executive director of American Heritage Girls.

Mike Smith:
Homeschooling families find many different ways to incorporate service into their lifestyle. Patti, you’ve said that service is an integral part of American Heritage Girls, how do girls develop godly character through this strong emphasis?

Patti Garibay:
I believe we have a mandate as Christians to serve one another. In American Heritage Girls, delivering on this biblical mandate can truly transform lives. Over the 13 years of AHG’s existence, literally hundreds of thousands of hours have been lovingly given to the community by our girl members. I really believe that when we learn most about ourselves is when we give ourselves away and true humility results in a God-given strength which allows our girls to want to serve and to become servant leaders. In American Heritage Girls, girls receive strength and affirmation from God as they help change and improve the lives of others through their community service projects. I find it so refreshing to see how highly the service component of the American Heritage Girls program ranks with the girls. They consistently rank it as the most enjoyable and memorable experiences they have had in our program.

Mike:
Patti, its great to hear how this program helps parents teach their girls to put family first and encourage an attitude of service. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
