True self-esteem is about finding self-worth in God. As homeschooling parents, are we teaching this to our daughters? Today on Home School Heartbeat, Mike Smith and his guest Patti Garibay talk about how connecting with other homeschooling families can help parents teach girls about their value in Christ.
Mike Smith:
Patti, you’ve said that American Heritage Girls is not about teaching “girl power”
so what is it about?
Patti Garibay:
Well, Mike, it is about living a joy-filled life. Not because others have told us we should be happy, but because we are made in God’s image and have a heavenly father who loves us more than we can imagine. This is what true self-esteem is all about. Just imagine, a girl really understanding her worth comes from God, a girl truly understanding this without even a shadow of a doubt. When this is the case, eating disorders, teenage pregnancy, suicidal thoughts and so many problems with this culture become moot. Our goal in AHG is to partner with parents and churches and private schools to help girls navigate the confusing seas of our times and to discover God’s perfect world for their lives. For this is where true joy and power and self-esteem is derived. This is not to say that girl power is not important in that. The power of a woman in today’s culture is very crucial, because the woman sets the standard for societal formation. It is absolutely very important that women are biblically sound and faith-filled women.
Mike:
Patti, it’s great to hear how this program helps girls find who they really are through God. And until next time, I’m Mike
