According to Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, president of Love and Respect Ministries, one of the keys to a successful homeschool is for parents to be both good parents and good partners. Join us for more on today’s Home School Heartbeat with Mike Smith.

Mike Smith:
Dr. Eggerichs, what are some of the ways husbands and wives can avoid the pitfalls—especially homeschool husbands and wives—of forgetting each other amidst the chaos that they have in homeschooling?

Dr. Emerson Eggerichs:
Well, as Sarah and I homeschooled for years, we realized that God intended for us to be parents, but he also intended for us to be partners. And what we realized, this is not an either/or situation. I either parent as an excellent homeschooler or I’m this very wonderful partner in my marriage. Many think those are kind of an either/or but it’s a both/and. The key is to trust and obey God. He calls us to be parents and he calls us to be partners. He intends for us to be good parents and to be good partners. The encouraging thing is that he’ll help us with both of these if we authentically ask him for that help.

Mike:
Well doctor, I look forward to having you back again. Would you be willing to come back?

Dr. Eggerichs:
Love to.

Mike:
Well thank you so much for sharing some of the pitfalls and some of the ways to improve our marriage especially as homeschool moms and dads. Thank you so much for joining us this week, and until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
