Looking for ways to find great curriculum without breaking your family budget? Join Mike Smith today on Home School Heartbeat, as he explains one new resource available to your family.

Mike Smith:
Today, I’m joined by Mitch Turner, HSLDA’s web director. With his help, HSLDA has launched its own Curriculum Market, allowing homeschoolers to buy and sell used curriculum online. Mitch, welcome to the show.

Mitch Turner:
Mike, it’s great to be here. Thanks a lot.

Mike:
Mitch, can you explain to our listeners what the Curriculum Market is and how it got started?

Mitch:
Mike, one of the things that really helps families be able to homeschool is the ability to buy used books and materials from other families. It really cuts down the costs. The popular Internet auction site eBay doesn’t allow the sale of any teacher’s guides or answer keys. That means much of the curriculum designed for homeschoolers can’t be sold on eBay, and there was a need for a place where homeschoolers could come together to buy and sell materials. HSLDA has the audience to make a useful marketplace, and in response to our members’ concerns, we set up the Curriculum Market.

Mike:
How can those homeschoolers get involved, Mitch?

Mitch:
Anyone who has a curriculum—a family, homeschool support group, book publisher—can register at market.hslda.org and sell their materials. To be able to buy items, you must be an HSLDA member, and that gives us a basic assurance that any teachers’ materials are being sold to teachers. Almost 4,000 people are using the market—everyone should go online to www.market.hslda.org and join the fun!

Mike:
Thanks for sharing with us today, Mitch. I’m confident that the Curriculum Market will continue to provide a valuable service to homeschool families. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
