Most great missionaries were raised in Christian homes. How should a Christian education change our view of evangelism? Join us for today’s Home School Heartbeat, as Mike Farris interviews his daughter Jayme Metzgar about her own international perspective.
Mike Farris:
Jayme, based on the time that you’ve spent in Romania and serving Romania, what advice can you give to homeschooling families about how to reach out to broken families in countries like Romania?
Jayme Metzgar:
Well here’s one example. My organization, Romania Reborn, supports a Romanian pastor and his wife and they visited our church in the U.S. and met a lot of the homeschool families here. And they’ve told me how inspired they’ve been to take this model of a godly, united family back to Romania because Romanian families are desperate for teaching on child-rearing and marriage and family unity.
So this couple has now opened up a family center back home in southern Romania, where families can come and have fun together, but also get discipled in these areas. There’s also a tutoring program for needy kids, but again, the big target is the entire family. There have been children who were so changed by their time in the tutoring program that their parents accepted Christ.
So I would just encourage homeschoolers that your simple example of healthy family relationships can really make a far-reaching impact. And if you can go on a mission trip together as a family, I would definitely encourage you to do it.
Mike:
Jayme, thank you so much for your work and for being a great daughter. I’m Mike Farris.
