How can homeschooling parents keep their families mission-minded? Today on Home School Heartbeat, Mike Farris shares a few ways that parents can teach their children to be effective throughout the world.
Mike Farris: Christian, how can families incorporate missions into their homeschool program? Can you share some fun ways for parents to get their kids interested in missions?
Christian: Sure. Simply read to your children. At home, my mom would read the latest missionary newsletter around our dinner table or during our family prayer time. We would have a lot of discussion and my mom would get us involved by asking a lot of questions about what we had read. Many times we would end up getting out the encyclopedias and doing more research about the country or people that we had just read about. And then we would spend a lot of family time praying for the needs. One resource that Romania Reborn is offering to families is the kid’s newsletter we’ve just created. It includes stories, articles about Romanian culture and language, and a fun activity. The parents can download this newsletter at our website, www.Romania-Reborn.org. By reading and discussing newsletters or biographies of missionaries from the past and present, a parent can really help their kids understand the needs facing people around the world or in their own neighborhood. Children really love stories, and they will remember them.
Mike: Christian, those are great ideas. I especially hope that our listeners will go to that website, which I guess is Romania-Reborn.org and get that kid’s newsletter so that they can get their kids involved in being concerned about orphans and missionaries in general. I’m Mike Farris.
