Movie-Making for Christ
Volume 79, Program 10

It’s a team effort to withstand the social pressures of the secular film industry. Join us for today’s Home School Heartbeat with Michael Farris, as he talks to homeschool graduate Daniel Noa about some ways that Christian independent filmmakers can support each other in such a high pressure environment.

Mike Farris:
Daniel, what are some of the things that you think homeschoolers should try to accomplish through movie-making?

Daniel Noa:
Well, the first thing they need to do is determine what God wants them to do in filmmaking. That’s going to vary from person to person. Some of us will be called to make movies for Christians about specific doctrinal and religious subjects. Others will be called to make movies that on the surface seem to be just like the movies everyone else is making. It is my hope, however, that those films will surpass those made by others and be known for having the best storylines, the best acting, and the best production values. When someone says, “Oh, that director is a Christian,” I want people to respond by saying, “Of course he was. That film was amazing.” Instead of saying, “Wow! Really?”

It is critical, though, that as Christians we do not fight amongst ourselves. We need to help each other, and the filmmakers called to one discipline should not judge the ones called to the other. Christians love to divide themselves; it is a habit that must not enter into this arena or we are finished. Let us find ways to help one another, otherwise we’ll end up tearing each other down.

Mike:
Daniel, thank you for being a part of an important growing new trend, Christians invading the movie industry for good. I’m Mike Farris.
