Leading the Way into the Arts
Volume 79, Program 6

Instead of simply being critics of the secular media, homeschoolers have the freedom to lead the way in the arts. This week on Home School Heartbeat, we’ll hear from one homeschool family that’s making an impact through film nationwide.

Mike Farris:
My guest today is Kerry Wall. Kerry and her husband David have been homeschooling their four kids for seven years. Kerry’s husband David wrote, directed and produced and starred in a new feature film entitled Noëlle. It’s released in theaters just this last weekend, on December 7. Kerry also stars in the picture. She helped with the production and just was a major part of the formation of this movie. Thank you for joining me today, Kerry!

Kerry Wall:
You are very welcome, Dr. Farris. It’s a privilege to be talking with you.

Mike:
Kerry, you’ve told me that you and your husband worked a variety of acting jobs in Hollywood in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. What’s your perspective on being a Christian in Hollywood?

Kerry:
The pressure is always on to compromise in Hollywood. I know that’s true for any mission anywhere, but I believe that Christians must, by God’s grace, lead the way in the media, in the arts. Our film, Noëlle, is our attempt at leading the way rather than succumbing to that pressure, the pressure to create mediocrity or be a part of it. The Creator of the greatest redemptive story ever enacted can use us to communicate his grace to the entire world through the medium of film. And as my husband David says, we want to bruise hearts with our stories.

Mike:
Kerry, thank you so much for sharing. I want to encourage our listeners not only to tune in tomorrow, but go see your movie. It’ll be a great movie. I’m Mike Farris.
