Mike Smith:
Dr. Eggerichs, what challenges or situations do you see homeschool parents facing in their marriages today?
Dr. Emerson Eggerichs:
Well, stress obviously challenges and many homeschooling parents who are in these situations are under a lot of stress. But Ephesians 5:33 commands, a husband must love his wife, and a wife must respect her husband. Some couples say, I don’t have the time and energy to love or respect my spouse. But the truth is, we have the time and energy to react in unloving and disrespectful ways. So not working on the marriage is really an excuse, and homeschooling can be the perfect smoke screen for disobeying God’s command.
Mike:
Can homeschooling put extra pressure on a marriage?
Dr. Eggerichs:
There’s no question about that, but that’s no excuse for disobeying Ephesians 5:33. And that’s why, Sarah and I, when we homeschool, we knew that God did not intend for us to disobey his word concerning our marriage because of our commitment to raise our children in a godly fashion.
