The growing move to ratify the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child should motivate those of us who believe in parental rights to prevent international law from taking over. HSLDA Chairman and General Counsel Michael Farris says there is one way to stop this internationalist move—tune in for more on today’s Home School Heartbeat.
Mike:
As children’s rights advocates in Washington are preparing for ratification of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Democrats seem to be poised for action right after the 2008 elections. A major part of their strategy and timing seems predicated on the fact that one of the primary proponents of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child is Hillary Clinton. According to most polls, Hillary is currently the leading candidate on the Democratic ticket.
All of this activity should give those of us who believe in parental rights a greater desire to take the necessary steps to protect these rights. Parental rights need to be placed into the Constitution of the United States in a way that will permanently prevent international children’s rights from ever taking over.
They call it children’s rights. But what the Convention on the Rights of the Child really gives us is an excuse for internationalist social workers and child-care “experts” to substitute their judgment for that of parents.
There is only one way to stop this international move once and for all. We must secure parental rights as a textual guarantee in the United States Constitution.
