Mainstream America is dominated by a worldview that seems so contrary to the bedrock principles of this nation. On this week’s Home School Heartbeat, HSLDA Chairman Michael Farris talks about how the Patrick Henry College Institute will address these worldviews.
This week, we’re going to be discussing a new program from Patrick Henry College called the Patrick Henry College Institute. And my guest to begin the discussion is Dr. Graham Walker, the president of Patrick Henry College. Graham, welcome to the program.
Dr. Graham Walker:
Hey, thanks for having me, Mike.
Tell us about the Patrick Henry College Institute and what it means to be a center for Christian analysis?
Our society is under siege in a lot of ways with ideas that undermine the basic principles of our nation’s founding and its ongoing stability. At the college we teach about these things every day, but we’re trying to bring out to the general public the kind of analytic resources that unpack the ideas that are threatening basic principles in America, the Christian faith, and ultimately the stability of our society.
Those are interesting ideas. What can people expect in terms of learning about those things at our programs?
Well, at our first program, I enjoyed hearing from you about the historical roots of America’s commitment to religious liberty in simple, Bible Christianity among plain Christians. I really enjoyed hearing also from our Provost, Gene Edward Veith, about the role that culture and the arts play in reinforcing or sometimes undermining a commitment to Bible truth. And David Aikman, our history professor, gave me a revelation in speaking about what’s really going on in these new books promoting atheism.
We’ll have more on this next time, I’m Mike Farris.
