If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking, “Hospitality is too much work!” Listen to today’s Home School Heartbeat with HSLDA President Mike Smith, as author and speaker Nancy Campbell shares how you can make hospitality a team effort in your home.
Mike Smith:
Nancy, teaching your kids to cook, eat healthy, and gather together for supper, is part of laying a strong foundation for their future. What advice would you share with a homeschool mom who says, “I can’t cook!” or “I can’t cook afford to have people over for dinner!”?
Nancy Campbell:
You can’t cook? Well, you could be one who just asks one person—a lonely, older person. It’s not hard to put a little bit extra in the pot for one person. You can affect the life of one person, and so, people don’t come to your home just to see how good you can cook. They come because they want to feel loved, they just want fellowship. So offer your home for fellowship. And many times people say, “Oh, I I just can’t afford it! We’re just on a strict budget, and it’s all we can manage to feed our own family!“ Can I tell you a secret? We have experienced in our lives, that when we open our hearts and open our doors in hospitality that we always eat better. It’s just the principle of God, you cannot outgive God, you give and He outgives you.
Mike:
Well, Nancy, thank you for that encouragement this week. We really appreciate you being with us. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
