I need to get organized—but where do I start? If that’s your question as a homeschooling parent, then listen in as Mike Smith interviews Marilyn Rockett, the author of Homeschooling at the Speed of Life.
Mike Smith:
Marilyn, let’s start with what should be our first step to solving any problem. What does the Bible say about organization?
Marilyn Rockett:
I did a word study through the Bible, and when I discovered that God had plenty to say about organization and plans, it completely changed my perspective on my home. I no longer think that chores around the house are simply things we have to do to eat, sleep, and be clean while we do other more significant things. I saw that those daily things were important to God so they should be important to us too, because our homes should reflect God’s character. I saw that God plans, that he commands us to plan and that because He is a God of order and he made us in his image, we feel frustrated when we’re out of God’s plan. My definition of organization, both the practical and the spiritual side, grew from that word study. Now I say that organization is making your life work for you by bringing the dailiness of life under control through yielding to the Holy Spirit concerning the wise use of your time. My book teaches moms to grow in making wise choices about priorities and to learn to balance their lives. We all have to do that. Mike:
Thank you for that insight, Marilyn. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
