The Media—Center of Power

For homeschoolers who want to make a difference in our nation, the media can seem like an impossible force to contend with. Today on Home School Heartbeat, Michael Farris and National Day of Prayer Task Force Chairman Shirley Dobson address this issue.

Michael Farris:
You know, Shirley, I’ve grown up in the church and been praying for the government and for our church and for our families for, you know, 50-plus years now, but I don’t know that I’ve ever heard anybody suggest that we pray for media in a systematic way like this. What a revolutionary thing it would be if the media got changed by the power of prayer!

Shirley Dobson:
Absolutely. The print media and television and film—it would just be incredible. You know, God is a powerful God and prayer moves the heart and then the hand of God. And He works in mysterious ways. You know, one thing I’d like to insert here is we are a separate 501(c)(3)—we’re housed at Focus on the Family because I’m the chairman, but we’re really a separate ministry. And it’s very hard to raise money for prayer because prayer is unseen many times. People like to give to buildings and projects and programs, but they don’t see answers to prayer many times so that’s hard for them to give to, and yet that’s the front line of defense. And the reason I say that is because, you know, what we’re talking about here—that with the media, you know, it’s something that we can take before the Lord and just persevere in prayer, and I believe miraculous things can happen.

Mike:
I want to strongly encourage all of our listeners to get involved in the National Day of Prayer on May 3rd. I’m Mike Farris.
