Please note: Today’s program is a rerun that first aired on April 27, 2000.

Home School Heartbeat guest Vickie Farris knows that one size doesn’t fit all for families. Listen today as she talks with her husband, Home School Legal Defense Association Chairman and General Counsel Michael Farris, about the vision that encouraged her.

Michael Farris:
Vickie, we’ve been homeschooling for 18 years now and things are a little different than our early days. I know that you’ve told me a vision that you had in mind in our early years of homeschooling that kept you going. Please tell us about that vision.

Vickie Farris:
Well, over the years, I have really determined to maintain a vision of raising a godly seed. When all the kids were young, I used to picture them as adults walking with the Lord, raising their own families, and it really encouraged me to keep that picture in my mind. It helped me to remember what my goal was, and it encouraged me to not give up. And now we’re actually seeing the reality of that. We have daughters who are grown, and it really helps me to realize that all of the time and the struggles over the years have been worth it. And it encourages me still with the younger children. It gives me the strength to keep going.

Mike:
Moms, if you’d like some encouragement, I think you’ll really enjoy Vickie’s book, A Mom Just Like You. You can get it at any Christian bookstore, or contact HSLDA.

A Mom Just Like You

by
Vickie Farris and Jayme Farris

How did a busy mom with 10 kids have the time to write a book? She didn’t. Vickie Farris’ daughter, Jayme, wrote it with her. In a warm, practical style, Farris gives homeschooling moms encouragement for those days when the challenge seems overwhelming, and shares her insights gleaned from years of experience. Hey Mom, you can do it!
