Dads, do you know how important your role is in your family’s homeschool? Listen in as Mike Smith and Scott Somerville talk about informing and encouraging homeschool fathers, on today’s Home School Heartbeat.
Mike Smith:
Scott, what activities is the K-Dad Network currently focusing on?
Scott Somerville:
Well, the first thing we’re doing, Mike, are seminars. Marcia and I are putting on the Building Your Homeschool Together seminars. We were in the D.C. area, Kansas City, Denver, and Cincinnati, and it was a great opportunity to get together with moms and dads and talk about the things that keep our homeschools from succeeding and figure out how to build them together. We are systematically asking three questions: First, why aren’t dads just automatically getting this right? Second, how do you “turn on” a dad—how do you tap into the untapped potential of the homeschool dad? And third, as soon as we’ve figured out how to give a dad what he needs to succeed, how do we get that message out all across the country? I love doing seminars, Mike, but I probably can’t go everywhere. I can go to Des Moines and Dubuque and Duluth, but eventually we’re going to run out of scheduling time. So we’re trying to build a network—a real man-to-man ministry—of dads who've caught this vision of full-family learning and are ready to turn over and share that with the dad next door.
Mike:
Scott, this is a tremendous idea. Look forward to hearing more about it tomorrow, and listeners, please join us again. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
