Looking for an excellent history resource to include in your homeschool program or to just to read to your kids in the evening? Join Michael Farris and his guest on today’s Home School Heartbeat, as they talk about the book Why America Is Free.

Mike Farris:
Michael Quinn, I appreciate you being on the show with me today.

Michael Quinn:
Thank you, we’re delighted to do it.

Mike:
I’d like to talk to you about the book, Why America Is Free, which is published by Mount Vernon. Why did your organization decide to publish this book?

Michael Quinn:
Well, it’s kind of a partnership thing, Mike. It was written largely by the Society of Cincinnati which is one of the oldest patriotic organizations in the nation, and it focuses on one of the most significant periods in our nation’s history—which is that time when we made a transition from a British colony to an independent nation. And, in that brief time period, one of the most remarkable revolutions occurred.

And we felt that the facts, the importance of that period, the values that were really established as the bedrock of the American society, were being largely overlooked in the way education is presented in most school systems today. This book, we felt, addressed that. Therefore, it was a valuable resource and part of Mount Vernon’s outreach educational mission.
