How do we let our wives and children know that we love them? Today on Home School Heartbeat, Mike Smith and his guest discuss the impact of fathers communicating their love to their families.

Mike Smith:
Greg, last time we talked about the importance of verbalizing our love to our wives and our children. That’s not always easy for dads, however. Why is that?

Greg Vaughn:
Well, most of us have never had it modeled. Most of us never had dads that said, "You know, here's how I feel about you; these are my thoughts." And so consequently when we move into being a father, we haven't seen it. Letters from Dad is about unlocking a man's heart and helping him say the things he always wanted to say, but just didn't know how.

Mike:
Well, Greg, what’s one way for dads to get started?

Greg:
One of the most powerful and effective tools I have ever seen is a letter called “I am blessed because . . .” It can be found on our website at lettersfromdad.com. Here’s what we do. We have you write the words I am blessed because . . . 10 times, and then fill in the blanks. Why are you blessed and honored to have your son or daughter in your life? As you write those things out, we encourage you to take that and have it framed and deliver it to your son or daughter. And as you do, you give them the gift, take it back from them and read why you’re blessed to have them as your child. It's powerful; it'll change their life, and yours too.

Mike:
Well, thank you, Greg. We’ll talk more about this subject again tomorrow. And until then, I’m Mike Smith.
