Are you wondering whether college is the right choice for your daughter? Then join us for today’s Home School Heartbeat, as Home School Legal Defense Association Chairman and General Counsel Michael Farris addresses that question.
Michael Farris:
We’re talking about preparing our daughters for life, and I think it’s appropriate for me to talk to my oldest daughter, Christy Shipe. Welcome to the program, Christy.
Christy Shipe:
Thanks, Dad.
Mike:
Christy, how would you say the combination of your homeschooling and your college education prepared you for where you are today?
Christy:
Well, I believe that my calling is to be a servant of God and that He has allowed me to develop certain skills through my education that I’ve been using to serve Him today. For example, at college I learned a lot about studying the Bible; that’s been very helpful for my life. I’ve studied music, which I’m currently using to serve God in our church and through teaching piano lessons at home. Also, teaching my own children (I have three daughters), the academic background I received from my mom and from college was a great help to me there-I got a lot of ideas and information that I’ve used in my own homeschooling; as well as, I participated on the debate team at college—that allowed me through your leadership and HSLDA to start a homeschool debate league for teens that has been a big part of my life even today.
Mike:
Christy, thanks so much for what you’ve shared with our listeners—and I especially thank you for what you’re doing with our three granddaughters. God bless you.
