The word is getting out—you can homeschool! Are you wondering if home education is right for your family? Would you like to know how to start? Then tune in to today’s Home School Heartbeat, with HSLDA President Mike Smith. Mike Smith: But for more than one million children in the United States who are homeschooled, the beginning of the school year looks a little different. Instead of walking to the bus stop each morning, these students will do their lessons at a desk in the family room or at the kitchen table. They will explore the world around them through field trips, science experiments, and internships. With their parents as their teachers, they will follow a personalized course of study that allows them to excel academically. Why do parents choose to homeschool? The two most common reasons are concern about the school environment, and the desire to impart religious instruction. Other parents are dissatisfied with the quality of instruction in public schools. Often, the choice to homeschool is based on a combination of these reasons. Perhaps you’ve considered homeschooling before, but weren’t ready to take the plunge. Or maybe this is the first time you’ve even thought about the idea. I invite you to join us this week as we talk about why parents choose to homeschool, and how this option could work for your family. So until next time, I’m Mike Smith. |
