What direction is the culture going, and why? Start exploring that question with host Michael Farris and his guest, on today’s edition of Home School Heartbeat.
Michael Farris:
My guest this week on Home School Heartbeat is Dr. Gene Edward Veith, who is well known to many because he was the cultural editor of World magazine and has published many, many books on culture and literature and many other topics. Dr. Veith, welcome to the program.
Dr. Gene Edward Veith:
Good to be with you.
Mike:
Now the good news, for me personally, is Dr. Veith is now the academic dean at Patrick Henry College, having just started in this role this academic year, and we’re really glad that you're on board. Ed, I’d like to ask you about the culture. What do you see going on in the culture? Just give us a Christian analysis of American culture.
Dr. Veith:
Well, our culture has gone a long way from our Christian foundations, and we’re starting to see the consequences of it. Postmodernism sees truth as a construction, so people have their own truths and they make up their own morality and there’s no consensus to hold us together. And we’re seeing this in everything from the moral collapse that we see on every level now to now, really, the collapse of education, because if there is no truth, there’s not much to learn. And now we’re seeing the consequences of it.
Mike:
Ed, we’ll look forward to talking with you tomorrow about the Christian response to these problems. I’m Mike Farris.
