Have you ever wished you could apply the 20/20 perspective of hindsight to your homeschooling efforts? Join us today as Mike Farris and his guest provide that perspective on Home School Heartbeat.
Michael Farris:
We’re joined today by a homeschool graduate, Abby Pilgrim, who is also a graduate of Patrick Henry College and works for National Geographic in their television department. Abby, looking over your years as a homeschooler, what advice would you give to homeschooling parents?
Abby Pilgrim:
I think probably the three big things that I came away with from homeschooling (besides a great education) were just the habits of making up my bed every day, reading my Bible every day, and reading the Wall Street Journal every day, which are things that I still do. But I think the biggest encouragement that I would give would be that a lot of the things that aren’t necessarily rsum-building, but just things like doing chores and being at home and interacting with family, doing well in school—whether or not those things show up on a rsum, those are the things that really matter. And I think those things have really paid off on a much bigger scale than any list of activities that it’s possible to do.
So I think homeschooling is really an amazing opportunity to focus on things that really matter, and ultimately I think God rewards that when you get out into college and then also into the workplace.
Mike:
Abby, thanks so much for being with us this week and for your real positive example of what homeschooling can accomplish in the life of a young person. I’m going to send you my blessings for your job, and congratulations on your recent graduation. I’m Mike Farris.
