Mike Smith: One morning, while feeding breakfast to three whiny kids, Holly whipped up a batch of cookies for Bible study that evening. A few hours later, with the school day well underway, she glanced at the clock and realized it was time for music class. The family piled into the car and sped to the piano teacher's house. When they arrived home afterward, Holly squeezed in another hour of schooling before letting the kids go play outside while she cleaned up the house for the evening's guests. Tired and irritable, the kids began arguing. Finally, Holly sent them all to their rooms and called her husband. "That's it!" she said in frustration. "Something has to change. I'm too busy to even enjoy homeschooling anymore." Does Holly's plight sound familiar? Most homeschool moms can identify with feeling tired, overwhelmed, and discouraged. The perfect homeschool routine you planned at the beginning of the year has gone out the window. Instead of spending enjoyable time with your children, you find yourself interacting with them on an emergency basis. Your husband is stressed, and you barely have time to pray in the midst of all that's going on. There's simply too much to do! If this is your situation, you're not alone-and there are ways to renew your sense of purpose in your daily activities. This week, I'll share some suggestions. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith. |
