Can storytelling prepare children for their future? Find out how it can on today's Home School Heartbeat with Home School Legal Defense Association President Mike Smith. Mike Smith: Children learn so much of their view of the world through their parents, especially in their early years. As a parent, you have a wealth of knowledge to share with your children. You have read books, learned skills, and tried to observe God's work in your life. You have probably traveled to places your children have never seen. Telling stories to your children transfers this knowledge to them. It gives your children an opportunity to see how particular skills or character traits work in real life. It shows them how attitude and obedience directly affect people's lives. As a Christian, you know the importance of building a worldview based upon God's Word. As a homeschooler, you are trying to help your children do the same. Storytelling helps get this process started at a young age. Telling stories gives you a great opportunity to share God's truth with your children and it whets their appetite for reading and learning. Your children will grow closer to you as they see the desire of your heart to spend quality time with them. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
