Is communication a priority in your homeschool? HSLDA President Mike Smith and author Zan Tyler explore the importance of this skill, on today's Home School Heartbeat.
Mike Smith:
Zan, your book discusses the impact of communication on many different areas of life, such as intimacy and leadership. Why is communication crucial for our children to achieve their full potential?
Zan Tyler:
Mike, I believe that God has chosen communication as His way to disciple and develop His children. In that same context, we need to be communicating with our children. All we need to do is look at Deuteronomy 6, where He says, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Repeat these words to your children. Talk about them when you sit in the house, and when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you rise up." And so if we want to be discipling our children to be world-changers today in our dark culture, we must constantly communicate the Word of God to them, our goals with them, effective academics and education with them. And through our constant reminders, and through our constant fellowship and intimacy with them, we can teach them what it is that God has for them to do in this world, and how He means for them to reclaim the culture for Christ.
Mike:
Zan, I want to thank you, and I want to tell you my wife has read your book and she recommends it for every homeschooling mom out there. Thank you for being with us again.
Zan:
Oh, thank you, Mike.
Mike:
And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
