Have you ever wondered if Christians should just stay out of politics? Join Michael Farris as he talks with author Ken Connor about his new book, Sinful Silence, today on Home School Heartbeat.

    Michael Farris:
I am joined today by my good friend, fellow attorney, and author Ken Connor. Ken, welcome to the program!

    Ken Connor:
Thank you, Mike. I'm delighted to be with you.

    Mike:
Ken, you have a new book that has a very interesting title-it's called Sinful Silence. Why did you give it that name?

    Ken:
Well, Mike, James tells us that whoever knows the good to do and doesn't do it, sins. And the Scripture is really clear that Christians have an obligation to be involved in the civic life of their country. In the book of Isaiah, the prophet admonished the people of Judah, "Stop doing wrong, learn to do right. Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, and plead the case of the widow." We believe that we have an affirmative obligation to do all of those things, and that when we fail to do so, we're guilty of sin.

    Mike:
Ken, there's a lot of hope for America in the verses that immediately follow. It says, "Though our sins be as scarlet, they can be as white as snow. Though they be red as crimson, they can be like wool." And I just really find encouragement that I know our nation can turn around when we follow the principles that are stated in those earlier verses that you quoted.

    Ken:
Mike, that's the great hope we have as individuals and the great hope that we have as a country as well.

    Mike:
Listeners, please join us next time as we continue our discussion with Ken Connor. I'm Mike Farris.
