What does it take to run a chapter of the Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society? Mike Smith is joined by the former president of a local chapter to get more details, on today's Home School Heartbeat. Mike Smith: Today I'm talking with Nicole Hanson. Last year, she was the president of a local Eta Sigma Alpha chapter. She's also a homeschool student and dual-enrolled at her community college. Nicole, what does it take to run a chapter of ESA? Nicole Hanson: Well, it takes a lot of teamwork. Even though I hold the title of president, we all run the meetings. We have a vice president, a secretary, and a treasurer, and several adult sponsors that all keep us on track. So, it takes all of us working together. Everyone in this honor society is very smart, and when you put all that brainpower together, a lot can be accomplished. It also takes a lot of patience, because the alpha chapter that I'm in is pretty big, and when everyone does get together, there's bound to be conflicting opinions. I've always heard in the past that I cannot please everyone. I've really learned this this past year being the president. Mike: So would you say that being president is not a popularity contest? Nicole: Most definitely not. Not with the honor society, no. Mike: Well, thank you so much for sharing with us today. Nicole: Thank you. Mike: And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
