Joanne Juren founded the first national homeschool honor society. Today on Home School Heartbeat, she joins Mike Smith to explain why and how to start a local chapter.
Joanne, how do homeschool students benefit from membership in Eta Sigma Alpha?
Well, one of the ways, Mike, that they benefit is obviously that they are recognized for their outstanding academic achievements. They actually can hold offices when they are members of the various honor society chapters. This gives them those wonderful leadership opportunities that they can put onto an actual high school and college rsum. We also find that when they actually are members of ESA, many of them develop wonderful friendships and they get to have some great socialization.
If a homeschool parent or student wants to start a chapter in their hometown of ESA, how would they go about doing that?
The easiest way would be for them to visit our web page at www.etasigmaalpha.com. From this web page, they can see if there's a local chapter in their state, and if not, they can actually email us, and we will be glad to send them a charter application. Once the charter application is completed, all they need to do is either mail it or email it back to us, and we will approve that organization to get started with their new chapter.
Joanne, that information is invaluable to the homeschool community. And I would encourage moms and dads to get your children involved in these organizations. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
