How can a dad with a full-time job also homeschool his kids? Today on Home School Heartbeat, HSLDA Attorney Scott Woodruff joins Mike Smith to answer that question. Mike Smith: With me today is Scott Woodruff, a homeschool dad and fellow HSLDA attorney. Scott, it's great to have you on the show. Scott Woodruff: Thank you, Mike. Mike: Scott, you and your wife sponsor a homeschool co-op. How do you help run that program? Scott: Well, Mike, when Jane and I felt last year that God was leading us to start a co-op, we really wanted to get the dads involved. But the problem is, with dads working all day, how do you do that? So we hit upon the idea of having the co-op run from 2:30 in the afternoon till 8 in the evening. That allowed us to have a teaching slot from 68 p.m., and that made it convenient for the dads to come in and teach. In fact, I've taught already about 12 times this year. It's been great. Almost all the dads in the class have taught. They were reluctant the first time, but after they tried it once, they love it. And I'm also in charge of our PE program (setting up the volleyball or basketball), and in charge of discipline and spiritual issues. But my favorite part really is our dinners together. The parents take turns bringing in dinner, so we don't have to have my wife do all the cooking. And then we sit around and talk, and it's been a wonderful, joyful time, just listening to the students, getting some input in their lives, hearing them grow, and getting a chance to watch them grow through some wonderful opportunities. Mike: Well, thank you, Scott. That's real encouraging. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith. Would you like to have the latest in homeschooling news?
