Universities such as Harvard and Yale have achieved academic notoriety in today's culture, but Christians should be aware of what these institutions are teaching. Join Michael Farris as he explains why, today on Home School Heartbeat. Michael Farris: Because of the prominent role that elite education plays in raising members of today's society to leadership, homeschoolers and other academically talented Christians face a dilemma. Do they go to Christian colleges that often are considered second-rate from an academic perspective or do they enter the elite secular colleges that Sandra Day O'Connor called the "pathways to power" in our society? What Christians must realize is that no factor in choosing a college is more important than the worldview of the faculty, because no college in America just teaches facts. College is far more about philosophy and worldview than it is about the transmission of factoids. If we, like Joshua, are going to take back the land, we need to train our students in high academics, yes, but it should also embrace a high view of the Word of God. As president of Patrick Henry College, I believe that Christian higher education can and should be the very best. Harvard and Yale were at their finest and trained their very best students ever in the days of the Founding Fathers when these schools were emphatically Christian. If we're going to have Christian leaders who bring Christian values into their efforts to take back the land, they have to have the foundation of a Christian academic education. I'm Mike Farris. If you'd like to be placed on Patrick Henry College's mailing list, call 1-888-338-1776 or email development@phc.edu. They'll send you a free copy of Michael Farris' new book, The Joshua Generation: Restoring the Heritage of Christian Leadership. |
