This month, mothers all across the country receive the acclaim that they richly deserve. Mike Farris, President of the Home School Legal Defense Association, gets the kids' perspective on Mother's Day, today on Home School Heartbeat.
Michael Farris:
What's your favorite thing that your mom cooks that you like?
Nathan:
I like quiche.
Mike:
Quiche? Good morning, Emily. Do you celebrate Mother's Day in your family?
Emily:
Yeah.
Mike:
What do you do?
Emily:
Give Mommy presents.
Mike:
Why do you give her presents?
Emily:
Because it's Mother's Day.
Mike:
Do you go shopping with your mom sometimes?
Emily:
Yeah.
Mike:
What do you like to shop for?
Emily:
Toys.
Mike:
What does your mom like to buy for herself?
Emily:
Food.
Mike:
How long have you been homeschooled?
Nathan:
About five years.
Mike:
About five years. And how old are you?
Nathan:
Ten.
Mike:
What's your mom teaching you right now?
Nathan:
Well, I'm working on my reading right now, and I think Jordan's working on his Easy Grammar.
Mike:
Okay, Jordan, are you working on your Easy Grammar?
Jordan:
Yeah.
Mike:
Is it easy?
Jordan:
Almost.
Mike:
Does your mom make it easy?
Jordan:
When she helps us, yes.
Mike:
And does she help you a lot?
Jordan:
Not too much.
Mike:
Not too much? Do you do anything on Mother's Day?
Seth:
Well, yes.
Mike:
What do you do on Mother's Day?
Seth:
Well, last year I gave my mom a tree.
Mike:
A tree?
Seth:
Uh-huh, the tree she liked so much.
Mike:
And did you plant it for her?
Seth:
Yeah, before she came home we planted it.
Mike:
What are you going to get her this year for Mother's Day?
Seth:
A dogwood.
Mike:
A dogwood?
Seth:
Yeah. Oh, I love those dogwoods.
Mike:
Oh, those are beautiful trees.
