On today's Home School Heartbeat, Zan Tyler, a homeschooling mother of three, joins Mike Smith to discuss how parents can prepare their high schoolers for college.
Mike Smith:
What advice for parents do you have that are actually sending their children to college?
Zan Tyler:
I think there are three things that I would recommend initially, Mike. The first is, is that you do give your children a very intentional worldview training. Once you know that your child has a Christian worldview securely in place, then I think the other thing you need to do is sit down with the child and determine what his or her interests are, what courses of study they intend to pursue in college, and how you can best meet those goals and those interests in your homeschool. I think the third thing that needs to be done is that parents and children together need to try to determine a long list of colleges the child could be interested in and get the entrance requirement for those particular colleges, so that when you get to the end of the high school years you don't think, "Oh my goodness, we've got to go back and do another English, we've got to go back and do another foreign language, or another math." When that child finishes high school, you want to know that he or she has the courses required to move on into college.
Mike:
I appreciate that answer. I'm Mike Smith.
