You have a role in promoting homeschooling. This week on Home School Heartbeat, HSLDA President Mike Smith explains the significance of that role and what it requires. Mike Smith: We have a role in promoting homeschooling. So far it's working. There are approximately 2 million homeschooled children in America, which is up from an estimated 1.2 million in 1995. But homeschooling could grow even more rapidly. According to the latest census there are 30 million stay-at-home moms in America. We know that successful homeschooling almost always needs one parent at home. Therefore, there's the potential for homeschooling to grow to 30 million families. But how do we continue to grow the homeschooling movement? Every set of parents faces unique circumstances. They possess different skills and abilities. Therefore, choosing to homeschool is a personal family decision. But every homeschool family should be aware that non-homeschooling parents, many of whom may be considering homeschooling, will be looking at your life closely. Many parents want to know whether homeschooling really works before they consider changing their lives so dramatically. To keep growing, homeschoolers will need to maintain high standards in their home in order to be ambassadors for the homeschool movement. Until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
