The rise of the women's liberation movement in America during the 1960s and '70s emphasized the economic equality of women to men. As more and more women entered the corporate world, the number of those employed as homemakers and full-time mothers decreased. Later, when the homeschooling movement began to grow, homeschooling moms were often looked down on for giving up what some women believed they had fought so hard to gain.


Now, it appears that the public has begun to see what was so clear to homeschoolers: everyone wins when mom stays home. Data from the U.S. Census Bureau indicates that America is seeing an increase in the number of stay-at-home moms. This trend is especially noticeable among members of Generation X—today's young parents.


These changing statistics have attracted a great deal of attention from the news media over the last year. Publications like the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and TIME Magazine are questioning why women would want to stay home. What are they finding?


These parents want to give their children something they feel their parents failed to give them: time.


This week on Home School Heartbeat, we'll look at some of the common concerns women express when considering becoming a stay-at-home mom and the potential rewards of coming home.
