If your high schoolers missed the opportunity to get involved in the presidential election, don't worry! Generation Joshua is already planning to help students participate in the 2006 race. Today on Home School Heartbeat, Michael Farris and Ned Ryun discuss some of those plans.

    Michael Farris:
President Bush's second-term inauguration was just about three weeks ago, and when people talk about the election, they're probably still thinking about last November. But Generation Joshua is already planning ahead to 2006. Ned, what are some of the plans for the next general election?

    Ned Ryun:
Mike, I have quite a few goals between now and 2006. First, we'll be expanding the online civics curriculum; second, we'll be continuing with our voter registration project; and third, we'll be encouraging these Generation Joshua clubs to grow, to expand. Right now, currently, we have about 2,100 members of Generation Joshua. My hope and goal is that we have at least four to five thousand by 2006. And my goal is that we have 20–25 Student Action Teams to be involved in key Senate and House races across the nation. Mike, one other activity that we'll also be doing is the GenJ Book Club. We'll be reading books on civics and leadership, politics, worldview. And the other project that I'm very excited about is the GenJ textbook—the civics curriculum—that should be out the first part of June 2005.

    Mike:
Ned, one of the things I'm most excited about for this book is it will not only teach the students the way civics works, it will also be talking about the way it should work if we were following the Constitution of the United States. Ned, I want to thank you for the work you've done to make this opportunity available to homeschool students all over America. We look forward to hearing more about Generation Joshua in future programs. I'm Mike Farris.
