My childrens teacher will always be cheerful and composed

What do you expect of yourself as a home educator? Home School Legal Defense Association Chairman and General Counsel Michael Farris encourages moms to be realistic, today on Home School Heartbeat.

    Michael Farris:
As a home educator and mother of 10, my wife Vickie has often struggled with feelings of inadequacy. She and our second daughter, Jayme, wrote the book A Mom Just Like You to encourage moms that God can do amazing things through ordinary people who are willing to follow him.

Did you start the day with a cheerful attitude only to end up fuming because of a disobedient child, two phone calls from telemarketers, a toddler flooding the kitchen floor with juice he was pouring for himself, and some silly students who would rather tell jokes than memorize their multiplication tables?

Moms, if you just didn't have the strength to keep your sense of humor and self control during those distractions, don't sweat it. Apologize if needed, but shake off those setbacks quickly.

Here's why. 1 Corinthians 4:7 says, "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us." If you could always get an A+ as a teacher, there would be no need for God's help. We are weak vessels, to be sure, but God has chosen to use us to accomplish his great purpose, that of conforming our children to the image of Christ.

Moms, don't expect perfection. Instead, count on God to use your humble efforts to accomplish great things in your children's lives. I'm Mike Farris.
