Michael Farris: But the real question most potential homeschoolers want to know is not where they get the piece of paper, but will their child's graduation be recognized for college admission or other similar purposes. The answer is yes, but there are qualifications. Homeschoolers have learned how to get admitted to virtually any college or university in the nation. Some colleges have very aggressive recruiting policies which seek homeschoolers as a result of the good experience with prior students. However, entrance requirements are often a bit more rigorous for a home educated graduate than for a traditional high school graduate. In addition to the standard achievement tests which are required for all students, homeschoolers would be expected to provide good written documentation of the kind of coursework the student has done in the high school years and an explanation for the grades that have been assigned to the student. Yes, your child can get admitted to college, and his diploma will be recognized. I'm Michael Farris. |
